Inpatient Obstetrics Nurse ION
The National Certification Corporation NCC has administered the Impatient Obstetrics Nurse (ION) certification and examination program. Applied Measurement Professionals (AMP) administers the ION computer exams in over 100 test centers across the country.
Registration
Candidates wanting to take the computer based exam can apply online on the NCC Website
Computer based exam candidates can also download an application form on the NCC Website and mail it to NCC P O Box 11082, Chicago, IL 60611
Successful candidates will receive a letter of eligibility with information on how to schedule a computer based test
Eligibility of letters are sent on the last day and 15th of each month and the whole application and confirmation process may take up to four weeks
There are no deadlines for computer based applications
Successful candidates have a 90 day window on wish to schedule an exam on the AMP website or by calling AMP on phone
Candidates wanting to take the paper and pencil test can download application forms and the exam handbook at the NCC Website
Completed forms, documents and payment should be submitted by a group of candidates consisted by a minimum of 6 candidates to NCC P O Box 11082, Chicago, IL 60611
The ION paper and pencil test is written once a year, September 25th, 2009 and the application deadline is July, 10th 2009
Successful candidates will receive a letter of eligibility within 4 weeks along with a guide book with needed information
Candidates will also receive an exam admission ticket about 2 weeks before the exam
Fees
Application for the ION computer based exams attracts a $300 fee, while candidates for the paper pencil exam have to pay $250. Both include a non-refundable $50 fee
Payments should be in Checks or Credit cards only. American Express, Visa and MasterCard are the only credit cards accepted
Format
The ION exam is comprised of 160 questions in multiple-choice format
Only 150 questions are scored while 10 questions are pre-test questions which are not marked
Both the computer based exam and the paper pencil exam are timed for 3 hours
A Pass or Fail result is given to the candidate immediately after the exam at the venue, while result conformations are sent within 21 business days
Results for the computer exams are mailed within 6 weeks after the exam

It is advised that you arrive early for the exams as candidates who are 15 minutes late are not permitted to enter
Candidates must have 2 pieces of acceptable identification
Computer based candidates can reschedule their exam as long as it is within their 90 day window for a $100 fee
